Work rambles

Ever wondered if what you're doing now is what you will continue to do for the next 3-5 years?
*sigh* Perhaps when work starts becoming less challenging that one will feel the urge to change scene. The grass might not always be greener on the other side but perhaps it is still a different grass and hence will taste/feel different? Should one stop seeking for new learnings and settle in their own comfort zone?
I need a holiday.

Pangkor Island, May 2008

If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful and nearby beach to go for a short weekend trip, do consider Pangkor island. These days even staying at Pangkor Island Resort (supposedly the best on pangkor island) trigger remarks like "Why not Pangkor Laut?". Have we all gone uber rich and uber spoilt? The Resort is nice with their own private beach but don't expect flawless, fine white sand like those found in Sabah.

Food gets the thumbs down so get a taxi to town to savour home-cook style meals and delicious home-made "mee sua" seafood noodles. A round-the-island taxi ride costs RM60 and a return trip to town costs RM30 (the taxi driver waits for you) so it's still more worth it than staying in the resort and eating bad buffet food. While you're out and about, do drop by the "satay" fish factory for some dried seafood shopping to satisfy the tourist in you!

The Notorious Tuk Tuks

This mode of transportation is awesome during rush hour to squeeze between lanes. A word of caution though, if you are 'promised' a cheap ride between the temples for less than 50baht, there might be a detour to a few jewellery and handicraft shops. Complete waste of time for me! Take the cab instead, reasonable fare and comfortable ride

Street Snacks and Coffee Anyone?

This is some crispy pancake filled with sweet stuff in the middle I picked up along the street of Bangkok. Try this for a quick sugar fix!

A bowl of dark pork broth noodles with all the trimmings

Why not finish off with a cup of iced cafe latte? Plenty of mobile coffee carts around Bangkok to cool you down on a hot suny day

Where to stay in Bangkok

There was 5 of us travelling so getting 3 hotel rooms seems abit lonely for the 5th person so I looked for apartments. Thumbs up to this place! http://www.bangkokpatio.com/ It's rather new and clean with great security. They even provide free tuk tuk services to and fro the nearest BTS station located just 5 minutes away.

Bangkok here I come!

Yummy food, check out the menu! Too bad the pork satay was finished.

I love this little Thai cafe hidden in the residential area of Phayathai. Great ambience and good food! Definitely off the beaten track of 'touristy' food joints.

New to the world of blogging!

I'm so excited! I've achieved my new year's resolution of getting a blog and it's only mid-year. Ain't I efficient? :)

The idea behind this blog is to record all my travel thoughts as memories, no matter how vivid fades with time. I have already forgotten the important details of my Europe travel during student years.
